Every member of the hockey committee is a small gear in the large engine that drives the club forward. Some gears are larger and more worn than others at the moment, which is why the Hockey Club is looking for willing people within the club to help lighten the burden on the existing committee. The positions below are open to anyone in the club, with a special request for the younger generations to get more involved. Although the club is run like a business, the atmosphere is NOT a load of old men sitting round the table having high-pressure business meetings. Meetings are friendly and relaxed with all members' opinions being heard and discussed. At the end of the day, we all want the club to move onwards and upwards so nobody is shouted down. There is nothing to be intimidated about with the club committee; we are all approachable people!! The positions that the committee are looking to fill are:- KIT ORGANISER Mike Haines and Bob Terry have done an excellent job in organising / purchasing kit for the club over the past couple of years. With Mike so heavily involved in the mens 1stXI and junior training and Bob sorting out the mens team selection problems, a position has become available for a person or persons to take over this role. It would involve taking the orders from members for kit (both clothing and equipment), ordering it from our suppliers and then selling it to the members. There will also be the small issue of maintaining the little equipment shop in the corner of the club. For more information on this position, please speak to Mike Haines. SOCIAL ORGANISER There is now a vacancy for a person or persons to take over the role of social organiser in conjunction with Sam. It would involve organising social events throughout the year, promoting and selling tickets for the events and generally trying to improve the social side of the club. TOURNAMENT ORGANISER As the size of our club is increasing, both in terms of members and facilities, we are at the stage where we can run tournaments and festivals. A position is available for a person or persons to take over the role of Tournament Organiser from Keith Martin. In the initial stages of organising a festival etc., it is simply a letter writing exercise. Once the festival becomes imminent, a small committee will be assigned to help you sort out the nitty-gritty issues that would enable such an event to run smoothly and be a success for the club. For more information on this position, please speak to Keith Martin. KENT CUP SUNDAY VOLUNTEERS Holcombe are hosting the Kent Cup Finals this year. The club will be well represented by the Mens 1st XI in the Kent Cup final and the Ladies 1st XI in the Ladies Plate Final. This event is going to attract an enormous amount of people to the club, so a small amount of organisation and help is required. Specifically, volunteers are required for an hour or so to help with car park marshalling, glass collecting at the bar and helping out in the kitchen. Some juniors are also required to be ball persons on the main pitch for the three main cup games. In the days running up to Kent Cup Sunday (27th April), volunteers are required to tidy the club up and make us look presentable. In the words of Keith Martin. 'It will take ten people an hour each as opposed to two people all afternoon'. (I think that Keith is saying that he and John Lambkin would really appreciate a hand!)
