Congratulations to Holcombe players Vince Lewis, Jon Gurney, Sean Parker, Pete Mills, Dave Hobbes, Jennie Hoyte, Lara Dickens and Claire Hales who won gold at their respective Masters’ Area Tournaments over the weekend for the South East.
The over-55s men’s team won three, drew three and lost one of their seven matches, scoring seven and conceding just three goals to win the tournament on goal difference from the South Central over-55s at Southgate Hockey Club.
South East opened up with three draws against East, South Central and West before picking up their first win against the North West side.
A loss to the Midlands followed before back-to-back wins to end the weekend, over Yorkshire & North East and then London.
The South East women’s over-50s went undefeated across their seven matches, also winning the tournament on goal difference, this time over the West side at Surbiton Hockey Club.
They opened up with a 1-0 win over East before drawing with North West. Another win and draw followed to end Saturday, beating the Midlands team and drawing with London.
Back-to-back wins to kick off Sunday followed to set up a title decider with West, after earning victories over South Central and Yorkshire & North East.
That title-decider ended in a 1-1 draw which was enough to finish top of the table on goal difference, having scored nine and conceded just four in seven matches.
