England captain David Ames, Ollie Payne, Phil Roper and Nick Bandurak were involved in all of England’s matches at the EuroHockey Championship as Paul Revington’s side won a silver medal in Germany, losing 2-1 to the Netherlands in the final.
Bandurak scored twice as England began their campaign with a 5-3 defeat to Belgium, netting once more in a 3-0 win over Austria and in a crazy 4-3 victory over Spain which secured England’s spot in the semi-finals.
Revington’s side drew 0-0 against hosts Germany in the last-four before winning 5-4 in a shootout, with Ames and Roper both converting their efforts in the shootout.
England were 2-0 down in the final before a spirited late comeback saw them come close to drawing level, with former Holcombe player Sam Ward scoring before Roper controversially had a late goal disallowed.
