Kent Hockey Association – the future

Please see below an update from Kent Hockey – please contact Dave Parsons on dlparsons2019@outlook.com if you would like to know more.

Hi all you Hockey enthusiasts,

This email is to provide you with an update with regard to Kent Hockey as a sub-area after our recent AGM and ask you for some feedback regarding Kent Hockey.

Firstly, we need to show what as a County (Sub-area) we could provide as agreed within our constitution as a sub-area of England Hockey.

Extract:

‘The principal objective of the Association shall be to carry out to the best of their ability, and as resources shall allow, such functions as may from time to time be delegated to the Association or otherwise required by England Hockey within the county area, which for the avoidance of doubt may include the promotion, development  and encouragement of all forms of hockey for adults, young people and children in clubs and schools and in accordance with the Articles of Association of England Hockey and the Area and in accordance with Regulations, rules and policies issued by England Hockey and the Area from time to time.’

What we need to know from you is the level of interest for competitions at Kent level for clubs. This is not exhaustive so please feel free to suggest others such as ‘mixed’.

For those who are new we used to run the below for adults:

    • Kent Cups

    • Mixed competitions

    • League competitions as cup competitions level to their league status.

    • Vets

The finals were then played on a County Day.

On the day there were some junior matches and maybe we can look at competitions for them as well. There is also a ‘push’ to run competitions for state schools.

The above is what we did, and we welcome further competitions so please let us know so we can move forward.

Here comes the ‘crunch’.

Kent runs on a small number of volunteers as shown below and as you can see with Lorraine stepping down and if myself and Kay step down will the County survive?

5.2 The current membership of the General Committee as per constitution are:

a)      the Chair Volunteer – Loraine Bant – stepping down.

b)     the Vice-Chair

c)      the Secretary seems to be Dave Parsons

d)     the Treasurer – Dave Parsons

e)     the Welfare Officer – Loraine Bant – stepping down.

and such other members as the Association shall decide to include but not limited to;

a)      The Communications Officer (Website etc.) – Alan Aitken

b)     the Masters’ Co-Ordinator who will represent the Association at the Area Masters Working Group – Kay Parsons

c)      the Junior Hockey Chair who will represent the Association at the Area Junior competitions Working Group and other meetings where appropriate – Dave Parsons

d)     Player Pathway Administrator – Dave Parsons

e)     the Adult Competition co-ordinator – shared by a Ladies and Men’s reps.

So, as you can see, we need volunteers, so please pass this through your club and should they wish to know more i.e. What the roles involve, please point them in our direction.

Thank you for reading.

Kind regards

Loraine Bant and Dave Parsons
