Match preview – W1s vs. Surbiton 2s (Division One South, 18th February, 2024)

By Lucas Ball

Holcombe are looking for a fourth win in five Division One South matches as league leaders Surbiton 2s visit Holcombe Park on Sunday afternoon (1:30pm).

Holcs had beaten Wimbledon 2s, Southgate and Sevenoaks in consecutive league matches before yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Slough, which left Nick Bandurak’s side a point clear of Barnes in the promotion race with a game-in-hand.

Surbiton ran out 2-1 winners in a tightly-contested affair in September, Holcombe leading for a long period through Emma Bandurak before two goals in the last five minutes gave Surbiton the three points.

Will Fulker’s side have won 12 matches out of 12, including beating relegation Wimbledon 2s 4-3 yesterday.

They have scored 41 goals in the process – including nine in their last two – compared to Holcombe’s 38 and conceded just 14, the best defensive record in the divison. Holcombe have conceded 19 goals in 12 games.

Victory for Holcombe would see them move four points clear of Barnes with five games to go in the promotion race.

Deanna Ritchie will be hoping to get on the scoresheet once more after scoring her first goal in five matches yesterday to reach double figures in the league.

Entry at Holcombe Park is free on Sunday. Updates will be posted across our social media channels.
