Holcombe’s Ollie Payne, David Ames, Phil Roper and Nick Bandurak were all involved throughout the Spanish Hockey Federation Centenary tournament for Paul Revington’s England, with the side eventually losing out to hosts Spain in Sunday’s final on a shoot-out.
England secured top spot in the pool stage via wins with a win over Spain (3-1) which Bandurak scored twice in sandwiched by 1-1 draws with both the Netherlands and India respectively.
Hosts Spain booked their spot in the final by beating India 2-1 and holding the Dutch to a 3-3 draw in Barcelona.
Revington’s side played out a 1-1 draw with Max Caldas’ side in normal time, with Zach Wallace’s goal cancelling out Bruno Font’s opener before the hosts went on to win in the shootout, by a scoreline of 3-2.
Payne kept the first two Spanish efforts out with scores eventually level at 1-1 after three attempts each before Roper scored England’s fifth.
